Open House Grand Opening celebration and Giving Tuesday
It feels good to be a new business. Every trip to the PO box that results in a letter found is like the joy felt by a kid finding a hidden Easter egg.
Tomorrow is our Open House. The three board members have collectively pooled their social networks and circle of family, friends and business contacts and have come together to host a special event to introduce the objectives of our nonprofit to the local community. I’m excited to share, and to meet “friends of friends” that share the same passion or the same interest.
Had we planned it better, we would have had the Open House today, to coincide with “Giving Tuesday”. What is Giving Tuesday, you say?
It’s a somewhat new concept… starting in 2012, and is meant to prompt individuals to give back to their community and support nonprofit organizations as well as offset the rampant commercialism and consumerism following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the biggest shopping events of the year.
I remember my Mom instilling in me the notion that it is better to give than to receive. When I was a kid, it was not an easy lesson to grasp, but as an adult, I totally get it. The feeling I get in my heart when I “give” is so powerful. In fact, it is kind of like a drug… you get hooked on the feeling and constantly look for ways to experience the euphoria again. It is no wonder that service work in Guatemala feeds my “habit”!
If you have gotten through the holiday shopping weekend and are looking for ways to allocate a few extra dollars to a charitable organization, please consider us! Monies received will go directly to our library project, and if we meet our budget, additional funds will go towards installation of vented ONIL stoves and 10-year water filters!
Congratulations! I am so looking forward to see how this all develops and to see the good work you will do!
Thanks so much! Maybe you’d have an interest in coming to Guatemala with us on one of the service trips?
Yes, this would be the book/school/library/learning project that I have intended to find, as I plan for my next 25 years. I am an educator and librarian with extensive work experience in school and public libraries.
Sincerely,
Linda Braunschweig
