2019 Projects
NUEVO RETO COMMUNITY GARDEN: Nuevo Reto is a transitional home for older youth in Villa Nueva, Guatemala. Jacob and Ada Castillo, directors of Nuevo Reto, tend to the community by offering meals, sponsored education, vocational and life training, love and support to all ages, with a concentration on youth. Spiritual growth, English-language classes, and a recently implemented library all add to their impact! In 2019, we will help them fund, build and implement a community garden!
HEARING AND VISION CLINIC: At the Lake Atitlan Wellness Clinic in Panajachel, we will orchestrate and dispense hearing aids to the elderly and others hard of hearing and also reading glasses to anyone that would benefit from the magnification.
BACKYARD SCHOOL COMPUTER LAB: Through a kind and generous donation of 30 laptops from the Wisconsin Challenge Academy, we are implementing a computer lab with Iris Santander at the Backyard School in San Bartolomé Milpas Altas. Extra funds needed for this project include some additional electrical wiring, RACHEL server (whose acronym stands for Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning) and training.
SHOE AND VITAMINS DRIVE: There are 68 families in the two neighboring villages of Panimache Quinto Bajo and Panimache Quinto Alto. In those 68 families are 416 people, and each of the 416 people will receive a new pair of shoes. Each family will also be supplied with vitamins, as we kick off a sustainable vitamins program!
MISCELLANEOUS: During each service trip, we enjoy delivering and installing stoves and water filters. We also donate medical supplies, school supplies, shoes, food, hygiene items, etc. And, because of our experience with donating libraries, we’re always on the hunt for Spanish language books to take with us in checked luggage!
